School Supplies
Tax-Free Weekend Gives Parents a Chance to Save!
Students and parents are getting ready to return to school, and that means South Carolina’s tax-free weekend is coming soon! Starting on Friday, August 6 and ending at midnight on Sunday, August 8, students and parents can purchase eligible items such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, computers, and linens without paying sales tax on those items.
LES School Supply List is shorter than usual. The school was able to use some funds last year to purchase supplies for this school year. Click here to view the 2010-2011 LES School Supply List for each grade level.

Each teacher will have his or her own phone number to the classroom. Phone calls will not ring in the classroom during school hours from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM. However, you will be able to leave voice mail messages for the teacher to retrieve before school, during planning time, and after school. Classroom phone numbers will be provided at the Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, August 12th.
Please note: If you wish to request assignments for a student who is absent, please call the main office rather than leaving the teacher a voicemail.

The new phone systems have been purchased by our district as a part of the building and renovation program to improve communication as well as to provide for improved safety as teachers can call from each classroom during the day, as needed. Thanks for your patience as we work through the learning curve with this new system. We hope this will be another way to improve communication as well as enhance the safety of our students at school.

Keeping Our Children Safe
The best way to keep your children safe is to know what they are doing. Good parents do this already. They monitor what their children watch on television. They supervise what their children read. They buy healthy food and monitor snacks. They know who their kids’ friends are and they get to know the parents of those friends. Technology changes by the minute. Even the best of parents often struggle knowing how to monitor their children’s technology use. The school district has a great parent resource page to keep you “Cyber Savvy”. Click here to view their resource links.

Timely Topics for Parents
Each month the School District posts articles of interesting and timely information created by SDPC Instructional Services content coordinators. This information may be accessed in SDPC web page under Families & Communities-Timely Topics or by clicking here.
